During the EAC (European Aerosol Conference) held earlier this month in Milan, Italy, from the 6th-11th September, Ecotech held our second Nephelometer User Group.
The 2015 edition was a success with more researchers and nephelometer users joining. There were 18 current and future users that attended to exchange their experiences on the nephelometer (Aurora 3000 and ACS1000 mainly) and to hear more about the future of the instrument and the aerosol conditioning system.
After an open, round-table discussion on meeting expectations and specific areas of interest, the group decided to focus primarily on the maintenance of the Aurora 3000. We spent a full hour pulling the instrument apart, explaining the use of every component and exchanging experiences on cleaning procedures, calibration, common mistakes and instrument failures.
We then moved onto the latest results, outlining:
– the nephelometer resistance to extremely low temperature and pressure
– the aerosol conditioning system (ACS1000) characterisation via laboratory measurements.
From my side, it was a great opportunity to collect a list of possible improvements and to hear about the problems that the users are faced with.
